The new Leaf River railroad bridge, featuring 13-foot deep steel girders and a 187-foot main span, has replaced the original truss bridge constructed in the early 1900s.

MBJ provided construction engineering services to PCL Civil Constructors Inc. This included design of the slide systems for the new and existing bridges, analysis of the new and existing bridges, trestle design and coffer cell design.

Construction Method and Specifications

The new bridge was built on temporary trestle adjacent to the existing bridge. Over the course of a night the existing bridge was slid out and the new bridge was slid into place. The bridges were slid using a system of beams, jacks and Hilman rollers.
