Project Description

A new 2.8-mile bypass road is being constructed between US113 and SR24 to improve traffic capacity and safety. The bypass includes new bridges over waterways, grade separated intersections, and interchanges to tie into the existing roads.

Our Role

McNary Bergeron is providing construction engineering for the two waterway bridges (596 and 597). Bridge 596 has 11 spans, each with a prestressed deck bulb tee superstructure founded on concrete pile foundations. Bridge 597 is 6 spans long, each 150’ long, with prestressed NEBT girders spanning between concrete piers. Bridge 596 is being built in a top-down fashion. MBJ provided erection procedures, analysis, and temporary works for the top-down construction scheme. For Bridge 597, MBJ provided the access trestle design and erection details for various precast components.

Construction Method and Specifications

Bridge 596: Top-down construction with crawler cranes supported on previous concrete girder spans. Extensive use of precast components (piles, pier caps, deck bulb tees) to help streamline construction. Bridge 597: Conventional construction from crane trestle. Extensive use of precast components (footing tubs, substructure columns, pier caps, and prestressed girders) to help streamline construction.
