Our Role

MBJ performed a redesign of the soffit system used to cast the 3’-4’ thick concrete dock for the Ship Lift portion of the project. Prior to our involvement the dock was intended to be built on a steel soffit, which required tight tolerances for piles and significant amounts of field welding. Our redesign replaced the steel with precast concrete panels, which saved the contractor an estimated $3M in material costs alone while improving constructability and increasing the tolerance on the piles.
