Our Role
McB was responsible for designing the falsework system to support the construction of the straddle beams. Since the new girder lines ran through the straddle beam, the falsework system also had to support the new girder lines prior to the casting. Additional tasks included girder erection of the widening superstructure and lift/rigging details for the truss falsework erection.

Construction Method and Specifications
New columns and straddle bents were required to support the new girder lines to make the widening possible in a highly congested area. The main straddle bent beams are integral with the existing and new girder lines to meet the clearance requirements of the Interchange. The 108’ long straddle beams are cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete with a 5’-6” wide x 10’ deep cross section.
