Bridges to Prosperity McNary Bergeron

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS: FREDERICK DOUGLASS MEMORIAL BRIDGE

The Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge Project will replace the existing 68 year old structure over the Anacostia River with a new multi-arch bridge. The signature project will carry 6 lanes of traffic along South Capitol Street and includes new traffic patterns at both approaches. The project is located within the heart of Washington DC, just south of Nationals Park and upstream of the Potomac River.

Our Role

McB is providing construction engineering services to the design build team. This includes superstructure erection manuals, integrated shop drawings, and temporary works designs. 3D integrated shop drawings were completed for the V piers and abutments. For substructure construction, temporary works designs included a crane access trestle, precast soffit system for river pier footing construction, along with V-Pier and Abutment falsework for the concrete forms. McB also designed falsework towers, temporary stay cables, and rigging for the superstructure erection.
